Deep cleaning and prophy
At Thrive Dental in Richardson, we pride ourselves on treating periodontal disease before it becomes an issue where you may get tooth loss.
We believe in routine 6 month cleanings or else you may get bone loss which leads to premature tooth loss.
Signs and symptoms of gum disease
Gum disease can show up in a variety of ways but there are certain signs and symptoms to look out for.
1. Swollen, red, puffy gums that bleed when you brush or floss.
2. Breath that smells
3. Visible tartar and plaque build up that looks white, yellow and dark.
4. Mobile teeth due to excessive bone loss.
Understanding periodontal therapy
Regardless of your oral health condition it is good to have an understanding of periodontal therapy.
Charting and diagnosing
Our office keeps diligent records of your teeth and periodontal condition. We will call out numbers that go anywhere from 1-10. The higher the number the more bone loss you have. Our dentists will also show you your radiographs and go over any findings they may see. The more informed you are regarding your dental cleaning the better.
Scaling and root planing
Scaling and root planing is a common procedure if you do not brush and floss properly. Deep cleanings involve removing plaque and tartar below the gum line.
Deep cleanings are also often accompanied with some type of antibiotic therapy to reduce swelling and protect the mouth from further bone loss.
Without a proper deep cleaning there will be excessive bone loss and potentially premature tooth loss.
